"A Woman's Question" by Lena Lathrop
"Do you know that you have asked for the costliest thing
Ever made by the Hand above?
A woman's heart, and a woman's life -
And a woman's wonderful love.
Do you know that you have asked for this priceless thing
As a child might ask for a toy?
Demanding what others have died to win,
With the reckless dash of a boy.
You have written my lesson of duty out,
Manlike, you have questioned me.
Now stand at the bars of my woman's soul
Until I shall question thee
You require your mutton shall always be hot,
Your socks and your shirt be whole;
I require your heart be true as God's stars
And as pure as His heaven your soul.
You require a cook for your mutton and beef,
I require a far greater thing;
A seamstress you're wanting for socks and shirts -
I look for a man and a king.
A king for the beautiful realm called Home,
And a man that his Maker, God,
Shall look upon as He did on the first
And say: "It is very good."
I am fair and young, but the rose may fade
From this soft young cheek one day;
Will you love me then 'mid the falling leaves,
As you did 'mong the blossoms of May?
Is your heart an ocean so strong and true,
I may launch my all on its tide?
A loving woman finds heaven or hell
On the day she is made a bride.
I require all things that are grand and true,
All things that a man should be;
If you give this all, I would stake my life
To be all you demand of me
If you cannot be this, a laundress and cook
You can hire and little to pay;
But a woman's heart and a woman's life
Are not to be won that way."
i just remembered this today as i was on the bus to church. (thoughtful as always) i realise that at the age of 20, i'm in no way ready to find my partner and win her heart. which makes me really glad i have kept and am keeping to my single-til-21 pact. mmm..
not that i've found anyone yet. ha. i would say something else too, but it would seriously offend. so ziippppp.
okaay. hongkong post.
i'm sory if i didnt' tell some of u about the trip, ehh.. this update is kindda for the rest of people to keep asking me about the trip.
The trip was alright.
Day 1:
woke up, went to airport, went to the DBS treasures lounge thingie, slacked a bit.. then headed for the plane. took SIA there, had a good time watching kung-fu panda and a bit of john hancock. lunch on the plane was sad because THEY RAN OUT OF BEEF. nvm. nexxt.
airport. nothing much there. bus trip. nothing much there too.
HOTEL. Disneyland hotel.
it's scary man, even the tiles have a mickey face on them =/ if u order food, ketchup will come in mickey mouse shape. they even had cruwella (is that how u spell it?) walking around the lobby. yiikesss.
aiyah sian of typing so much. i'll cut short. disneyland is built for KIDS, not for adrenaline pumping teenagers or adults. the rides were bad. there wasn't any decent snacks around. and the haunted house queue was more than an hour.
don't go to hong kong's disneyland. please, i beg you.
okay day 2:
shopping at town. BORING. next.
night shopping at the streets(: THAT was fun. ehh.. bought some new clothes (FINALLY, like vanessa said.) the nice part was actually going to one of those food shops and they have this huge vat of boiling animal parts. it sounds kindda weird, but it's actually pretty good! they cut it up into small parts and put it on a stick. there's stuff like intestines, cow lung, stomach, etc. surprisingly good!! but the fried intestines was absolutely gross. i dunoo what oil they used, but it was nauseating.
day 3:
go back home. watched the rest of john hancock and get smart. had a few cocktails too :D
i guess best part of the trip was the plane rides, night market shopping, and trying a few of the cocktails at the lobby with my parents. my bro intro-ed this drink called around the world to me. pretty nice(: kindda realise how people can get drunk on cocktails (though i can't figure out why they are willing to pay so much for the drink. i rather get a can of coke or something)
OH OH. the breakfast at disneyland hotel was nice too. i found my new favourite cheese. emmental cheese. it's BRILLIANT toasted with bread, as well as with crackers(: enough said.
yay one more post for joash
